Brazil Opens e-Visa Services for U.S., Canadian, and Australian Citizens

UPDATE: On April 10, 2024, the Brazilian Government announced that they will delay the e-Visa requirement for citizens of Australia, Canada, and the United States until April 10, 2025.

Brazil has announced that they will reinstate tourist and business visa requirements for citizens from the United States, Canada, and Australia starting April 10, 2025. An e-Visa will be required before entering the country.

With the introduction of the e-Visa system, the Brazilian visa landscape will become more straightforward. Whether you’re planning a business trip or a leisurely vacation to Brazil, the online application process offers a seamless experience for travelers.

What is an e-Visa?

Similar to a traditional travel visa, an e-Visa gives a traveler permission to enter a country and visit for a predetermined number of days. The only difference between an e-Visa and a traditional visa is that an e-Visa application is completed electronically.

e-Visas offer applicants an effortless application process. Forms can be filled out with ease from a desktop or any mobile device. There is no need to visit the embassy or consulate. Applicants will not need to submit their original passport for the e-Visa service; instead, a clear color copy of the signed passport is acceptable for processing. Once the application is complete, processing and approval is typically faster. Applicants do not need to wait as long before traveling.

Can I get an e-Visa for Brazil?

Yes, travelers visiting Brazil can opt for an e-Visa instead of a traditional travel visa. The e-Visa system has streamlined the application process, providing a convenient digital alternative to traditional visa procedures.

What countries are eligible for Brazil e-Visa?

Brazil has expanded the list of eligible countries for the e-Visa program. U.S., Canadian, and Australian citizens are now eligible to apply for an e-Visa.

For trips arriving in Brazil on or after April 10th, 2025, U.S. citizens cannot travel without an e-Visa. However, the introduction of the e-Visa system provides a more accessible and convenient option for obtaining the necessary travel authorization.

How Long is the Brazil e-Visa Valid?

The Brazil e-Visa is valid for one year from the date of issuance and allows the traveler to visit for up to 90 days. This means that once you receive your e-Visa, you have a one-year window to travel to Brazil for tourism or business purposes.

The Brazil e-Visa is a Multiple Entry visa. Within the one-year validity period, you can visit Brazil multiple times. However, your total stay can not exceed 90 days in the given year.

If needed, you can apply for an extension of your e-Visa through the Federal Police of Brazil. Extension applications will need to be completed before the e-Visa expires. Otherwise, complications may occur.

What is required for the e-Visa application?

In addition to a valid passport, travelers will need the following when applying for a Brazilian e-Visa:

  • Recently taken digital passport-style photograph of the applicant, complying with standard photograph guidelines (size 2” x 2”, taken against a light-colored background, neutral expression, etc.)
  • Copy of a round-trip flight itinerary to Brazil booked in the applicant’s name (flight, ship, or bus reservation showing entrance by air, sea, or land into Brazil and exit from Brazil)
  • Completed eVisa questionnaire
  • Copy of a signed invitation letter from a Brazilian sponsoring company (e.g., ground handler or business contact in Brazil) – a sample letter is available
  • Copy of the applicant’s most recent bank statement (minimum balance US$2000) or most recent paycheck
